Join the Honors Program
The University Honors Program seeks students who not only have high grades and test scores, but also curiosity and a desire to challenge themselves. The program promotes creativity, intellectual rigor, and collaborative learning through small class experiences and a range of co-curricular activities. Honors students can be members of any undergraduate school at the George Washington University (GW).
Prospective students must apply to the University Honors Program at the same time they apply for admission to the University. Honors Program application consideration occurs after the University has made a decision on your general application. The Honors Program application requires a set of specific essay questions in addition to the essays required for the general application to GW. There are no precise thresholds with regards to standardized test scores or high school GPAs. Honors Program application information can be found in the GW Supplement to the Common Application when you are applying to the university. You can learn more about the application process from the Office of Undergraduation Admissions.
Students already enrolled at GW can apply to the University Honors Program during the second semester of their freshman year. Admission is limited to 15 exceptionally qualified applicants per year. Applications are typically taken during January and February. Students interested in applying can sign up here for an email notification when the application becomes available.
